Will Smith reappears in India almost a month after the Oscars

Will Smithwhose recent victory for best male lead at the Oscars was understandably overshadowed by his decision to slam and shout obscenities at Chris Rock when the comedian made an obvious crack about Jada Pinkett Smith, has kept a low profile lately. There have been carefully worded statements on social media, his academy resignation and his acceptance of the academy’s year-long ban on their ceremony, but A-lists have not made waves publicly since “Gettin ‘Jiggy Wit It” at 6 p.m. Vanity Fair Oscar party.

It ended early Saturday when the actor was seen in what TMZ reported was a private airport in Mumbai. (TMZ claimed that “it was clear that the paparazzi in India knew he was coming.”) Smith smiled and waved to his fans 12 and a half time zones in front of his home in Los Angeles.

It is still unclear why Smith was in India, or whether it was for a business reason.

That Hindustan Times reported that Smith stayed at the JW Marriott Hotel Juhu, a 5-star beachfront luxury resort that features both an infinity pool and a saltwater pool. The newspaper noted that Smith has been to India before, and recently recorded a video with spiritual leader Sadhguru.

Back in the US, The Slap’s aftermath continues to wave over Hollywood. Some of Smith’s future projects appear to be on hiatus for now; Netflix has reportedly canceled its sequel to Bright, although CNET noted that the rationale for the decision was unclear. There is also no shortage of rumors about the status of Will and Jada’s marriage.
