What is behind the success of The Logic

William Turvill of Press Gazette writes about Canadian-based The Logic, which covers tech and innovation in that country and now has 18 journalists on staff.

Turvill writes: “The logic aims to publish one or two stories a day in total.” It really reduces the requirement for journalists to feel like they are sitting on a hamster wheel, and who always have to discard copy for the sake of scale, “says Skok.

“‘Reporters and editors are our products. And so far in many organizations that has just not been the case.’

“He adds that journalists are not set goals or quotas for work – ‘we do not rely on analysis to determine what they do. If anything, they want more than we give them. We really try to keep them separate.

” Our view is that we’ve told our readers one to two really strong, original pieces of journalism a day, plus a daily briefing that comes out every afternoon, which is rounded off with some clever analysis of what’s happened in the world. ” ”
