Here is another excellent video essay to enjoy – brought to us by the UK distributor Studiocanal. The art of telling stories is a video essay made by “The Cinema Cartography”, a collective that creates videos about movies and explores different themes (we also released their The Greatest Films You Don’t Know a few months ago). This one looks at how films use visual storytelling and the different kinds of visual techniques that filmmakers are happy to use. They discuss classics like Guillermo del Toros Pans labyrinthAkira Kurosawas raceDavid Lynchs Elephant basketsFrancis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse nowplus Michael Powell’s film and Jean Cocteau’s film. As always, it just makes me want to see more movies – especially all these classics.
