A slightly subjective assessment of today’s weather on a scale from zero to 10.

8/10: A pretty nice start to the week with 70s and partly sunshine.

  • Today: Partly sunny. Highlights: 67-77.
  • Tonight: Mostly cloudy, light fog. Lower: 55 to 59.
  • Tomorrow: Showers, mainly in the afternoon. Heights: 70 to 74.

The heat of the weekend was well timed and it can take more than a week before it is so hot again. Our weather is getting cooler this week with the 70s today and tomorrow and then only the 50s and 60s the rest of the week. While it gets cooler, we get plenty of sunshine with only showers in the weather forecast on Tuesday and Sunday.

Today (Monday): Not an easy forecast today. A wedge of cool air due to winds from the sea can seep into our northern suburbs. We will probably see a whole range of heights throughout the region, with the upper 70s to almost 80 around Fredericksburg, but perhaps just the mid- to upper 60s around Baltimore. In the immediate DC area, the mid-70s seems most likely for heights with partial sunshine. The wind is blowing from the east around 10 mph with some gusts as high as 15 mph possible. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy sky with a chance of light fog. Lower falls in the middle to the upper 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Showers are possible at any time, but most likely between noon and late afternoon. They should not be too much (generally less than a tenth of an inch) and we may have enough partial sunshine to push heights towards the mid 70s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Showers may continue in the evening, but then the sky will gradually clear. It gets noticeably cooler with low in the 40s as the wind comes in from the northwest around 10 mph with some higher gusts. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunny skies Wednesday and Thursday but it feels more like late March than late April. Highs both days struggle to reach 60. Wednesday night we can not rule out the development of frost late, as lows dive into the low to mid 30s in our colder areas and closer to 40 in the center. Thursday night it is only a few degrees milder. Confidence: Medium-High

Temperatures moderate some Friday and Saturday but it is still cooler than usual for the closing days of April. Highlights are the mid 60s Friday and the upper 60s Saturday. The night owls are mostly in their 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

A frontal system that moves into the region Sunday allows for periodic showers. However, it does not look like a leaching. Higher – in the mid 60s – continues to be cooler than usual (the low 70s). Confidence: Medium
