Unqualified Botox, filler and laser “doctors” revealed in Egypt

A BBC News study has revealed serious flaws in the Egyptian beauty industry that endanger lives and leave people scarred for life.

In Egypt, you need to be a dermatologist or plastic surgeon to inject Botox or dermal fillers. Even laser hair removal requires the supervision of a qualified doctor.

But the BBC found dozens of unqualified people working in the beauty industry in breach of Egyptian laws and regulations.

Declaring they were overwhelmed by the rapid growth of the sector, the body responsible for registering doctors in Egypt, Doctors’ Syndicate, told the BBC they needed more power to act. The Egyptian Ministry of Health has not responded to the BBC’s request for comment.
