Under 18s win the Premier League North title

Manchester City have won the 2021/22 U18 Premier League North Division to make it back-to-back title wins

Ben Wilkinson’s team sealed the title in the wake of Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday afternoon.

Since the Merseysiders only have two games left of the season, and City with seven points ready, that means we can not be overtaken and therefore have kept our crown.

City have won five of the last seven North Division titles and we will now continue to defend the national title we won last season against Fulham.

The league triumph completes a successful debut campaign for Wilkinson, who succeeded Carlos Vicens as head coach at the start of this season and who also guided City to U17 Premier League Cup success earlier this season.

Wilkinson’s youngsters have achieved a remarkable level of consistency throughout the league campaign, winning 16 of our 23 matches to date.

Our success was built on expertise at both ends of the field.

City’s solid defense has only conceded 24 goals to date – the best record in the country, and we have also proved to be a potent attacking force in the North Division, which has scored 65 times so far with three games left.

The Under-18 North title adds to what has been an excellent 2021/22 campaign for City’s Academy.

Wilkinson’s team follows in the footsteps of our Elite Development Squad, which retained the Premier League 2 trophy last Friday.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s first team is currently leading the Premier League as we seek to retain the title we secured last season, with five games left of the season.

Everyone in Manchester City congratulates Ben, the U-18 squad and the staff on this fantastic achievement.
