Ukrainian mother, 3 months old among 8 dead in Odesa

A Ukrainian mother and her 3-month-old baby are among eight dead after a Russian missile attack in Odesa, according to a report.

“She was a mother. She is no more. And neither is her 3-month-old baby girl Kira,” Ukrainian lawmaker Lesia Vaslenko said. posting a photo of the deceased woman.

Eighteen others were injured and several buildings were destroyed in Saturday’s attack. A number of other victims are still believed to be under the rubble, the Kyiv Independent reported.

The woman gave birth to the baby just a month before the start of Russia’s invasion and posted a picture during the war to celebrate the baby’s birthday.

“This was the best 40 weeks ever. Our girl is 1 month old now. Dad got her first flowers. It’s a whole new level of happiness,” read the February post, which has been shared online after their deaths.

The attack also caused extensive damage to a 16-storey residential complex in Arkadia, a residential area in Odesa, the Kyiv Independent reported.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack during a press conference on Saturday afternoon and promised revenge on those responsible. The Ukrainian military later said the missiles were fired by a Russian Tu-95 bomber from the Caspian Sea.
