Toddler, mother thrown out after stolen car accidents during police chase

NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV) – A woman and her 2-year-old son were thrown out after the Hyundai they were sitting in was hit by a stolen car, which was chased by officers in North County Friday morning.

The accident happened around kl. 8:50. Officers say they saw a stolen red Dodge sedan at Riverview and I-270 that had been taken in a car wreck in St. Louis. Louis City Thursday night. The suspect then led officers on a chase, and officers tried to lay barbed strip down to flatten the tires on the Dodge, but were unsuccessful.

Eventually, Dodge hit a black Hyundai turning westbound onto Hudson Road from West Florissant. The hyundai then hit a utility bar and broke into flames. A woman and her 2-year-old child inside the Hyundai were thrown out. They received life-threatening injuries. The Dodgen then hit a white Oldsmobile; the driver inside the Oldsmobile was slightly injured.

The suspect is in custody and was taken to a hospital, but police say he was not injured.

Police said that because the vehicle was taken in a violent case, it qualifies for a police prosecution. Officers found a gun in the suspect’s car.
