GREEN BAY – The Packers used the first of their four selections in the seventh round to draw Georgia Tech Safety’s Tariq Carpenter at No. 228 overall.
Carpenter started 41 of his 52 career games over five seasons at Georgia Tech, recording 223 tackles (6½ for a loss), four interceptions and three forced fumbles.
6-foot-3, 230-pound safety started nine out of 12 games played in 2021, posted a career-high 65 tackles and split three passes. Carpenter’s mother, Demetria Fiffie, a resident of Ludowici, Ga., Is a retired U.S. Army Army sergeant. She has served five international missions, including three missions to Iraq and one to Afghanistan.
Carpenter joins a security space that includes veteran starters Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage, 2020 seventh-round pick, Vernon Scott and Shawn Davis.
