The death of a 56-year-old man found in a parking lot at a hospital in Birmingham is still ‘officially unexplained’, police say

A post mortem on the body of a man found in a car at Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield has been shown to be inconclusive, police said.

West Midlands Police are launching an investigation into the death of a 56-year-old man from Kingstanding, Birmingham, after his body was discovered on Friday (April 22).

An autopsy was conducted as soon as possible to help them understand what caused the man’s unexplained death.

However, the investigation showed no clear signs of injury and there was no evidence to suggest that the man had been assaulted.

His death is still officially unexplained and police investigations are continuing.

The car where the body was found had previously been removed for more detailed forensic examination, while the area of the parking lot that was cordoned off was reopened.

In a statement, West Midlands Police stated: “Further tests will take place over time, which will hopefully explain what led to the man’s death.

“The man’s family was informed by the police about the tragically sad news that the police had arrested a 43-year-old man from Tamworth in connection with the investigation, but have now released him without charge.

“One of our specially trained family liaison officers is supporting the man’s loved ones.”

Police are urging anyone with information that could help detectives to contact them via Live Chat on the West Midlands website, citing investigation number 20/393435/22.
