New Era Entertainment, the North American distribution banner launched last year by European genre specialist Devilworks, is moving into film production and financing.
First up for the company is Summer joke war (working title), billed as a “Home alone-like comedy, “which New Era Entertainment co-produces with New York-based Gemelli Films Inc.
Gemini’s Candice Cain (Joy & hope) wrote and will direct the feature that follows a family living in a neighborhood where pranks are largely a tradition. When the father misses a work meeting due to a very messy joke, he forbids his four daughters to attend several jokes. But when one is kidnapped, they go on a mission to rescue her by using joke tactics as a team and are eventually reunited with their parents. The film is currently in production in New York.
Summer joke warStarring Stefanie Bloom (2050, Gotham), comedians Kerri Louise, Jason Frederick, Kenney Myers, Monika Mannix (Welcome to Hope) and newcomer John Romanski. Young talents on board also include newcomers Aidan Scott, Madison Ross, Sailor Ross, Jennifer Hall and several others.
“I’m very excited to partner with New Era Entertainment for such a fun film,” Cain said. “This movie is reminiscent of movies I loved when I was a kid, e.g. The Goonies and Home alone. I really hope this film brings the love of healthy family movies to a new generation of audiences. ”
New Era Entertainment was established by Devilworks in June 2021 as a full-service global film distribution and sales agency representing genre films and independent for North American distribution and the international market.
“As we all know, the market has changed over the last three years, and we decided to adapt to this change and start funding independent projects that make a solid statement to the current indie scene in the market,” said New Era President Samantha Richardson.
Gemelli Films is an independent production company based in Brookhaven, New York. This is the first film What happened last night was released by Sony in 2017, and its first series, New dogs, old trickswas released on Amazon in September 2018.
