Anchorage, Alaska – A soldier from the U.S. Army died of injuries in a bear attack Tuesday in Alaska.
The soldier was part of a small group in a training area west of Anchorage Regional Landfill when the bear attacked.
The name of the soldier was withheld pending the notification of relatives.
The 673d Security Forces Squadron initially responded to the incident.
The Alaska Wildlife Troopers searched for the bear in the area, which is closed to the public for all recreational activity.
Alaska’s news source reports that the soldier was attached to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and that the incident happened at the base.
