Sharjah Airport announced that it achieved positive results and a remarkable growth in passenger numbers, cargo volume and air traffic during the first quarter of 2022.
The airport stated in a statement that it received more than three million passengers from January to the end of March 2022, compared to 1.3 million passengers in the same period in 2021, a growth of 130 percent.
On the other hand, in the first quarter of 2022, aircraft movements recorded an increase in the number of flights by more than 89%, registering 21,336 flights, compared to 11,279 flights in the same period last year.
In terms of air freight, Sharjah Airport recorded more than 39.566 thousand tons during the first three months of this year, a growth of 26.39% compared to the same period last year, including 14.457 thousand tons during March 2022 alone.
The head of the Sharjah Airport Authority, Ali Salem Al Midfa, said the easing of international travel restrictions and the gradual recovery from the “Covid-19” pandemic, which allowed airlines to resume their previously suspended flights, contributed to to achieve positive growth rates that are in line with the efforts of Sharjah Airport to deliver the highest standards of safety and security for travelers and customers during the pandemic to make the travel experience to and from Sharjah easy, safe and distinctive.
