Russian military action from Mariupol .. 38 targets were bombed in Ukraine

On Monday, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said that a number of Russian battalions were being sent from Mariupol to the city of Popasna in Lugansk in the eastern part of the country.

Popasna was one of the hotbeds of fighting in eastern Ukraine, where the Russian army tried to break Ukrainian defense in an attempt to encircle Ukrainian forces in the east.

The Ukrainian General Staff added that the Russians were also trying to intensify their attacks from Izyum to the cities of Sloviansk and Parvenkov.

Ukrainian military analyst Oleh Zhdanov told the Associated Press that the redistribution of forces from Mariupol to the front line in the east reflects that no gains have been made there.

The Russian army is still making a strenuous effort to eliminate the last pockets of Ukrainian resistance at the gigantic Azovstal steel complex in Mariupol.

The UN is scheduled to coordinate an effort, on Monday, to evacuate civilians housed at the factory.

bombing of Ukrainian targets

In this context, the Russian army announced that it had bombed dozens of Ukrainian military targets in the east.

Russian military spokesman Igor Konashenkov said Russian fighter jets fired precision-guided missiles to hit 38 Ukrainian targets, including troop and weapons mobilization centers, over the past 24 hours.

Konashenkov added that a Russian air strike destroyed an ammunition depot near Chernihiv in the Zaporozhye region.

A Russian military spokesman said a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet had been shot down near the town of Sloviansk in eastern Ukraine.

In recent weeks, the Russian military has focused its attacks on the Donbass region – Ukraine’s industrial heartland – where Moscow-backed separatists have been fighting Ukrainian forces since 2014.
