Ronnie O’Sullivan told Judd Trump that he is already an all-time great and will continue to win the World Cup several times after beating Esset in the Crucible final on Monday night.

The Rocket won a record-like seventh world title with an 18-13 victory over Trump, matching Stephen Hendry’s huge success at Sheffield.

After hitting the winning balls, O’Sullivan embraced Trump in what seemed like an eternity when he shared a lovely moment with the 32-year-old, then spoke incredibly loudly about the man he just hit.

“But as far as I’m concerned, this guy is already an absolutely amazing guy,” O’Sullivan told the BBC. ‘The way he plays the game plays such a dynamic snooker.

“To endure that pressure for two days, even when he’s not playing well, you think he’ll get started. So you have to be on guard all the time.

‘It’s probably the best result I’ve ever had against someone like Judd.

‘With Judd, we all knew he was not playing his best, but that’s what a champion does. They do not play their best, they still reach the final and almost win it.

“He’s going to win this a couple of times, and the other guys had better get along.”

O’Sullivan added on Eurosport: ‘I gave him a big hug and sobbed in his arms.

‘He said some such lovely words. What he said to me blew me away.

‘I love Judd. He’s a great boy, and I did not know what he thought of me until then.

‘Other respect there, I was not aware of how he sees me and be a part of his development. He’s great at snooker. What he said, Judd. It just made me in. ‘

Asked what Rocket had said to him during the epic hug, Trump told reporters: ‘He was just sweet to me. It was nice to share it with him.

– Of course I would have liked to have come out on the other side, but it is a fantastic achievement for him.

– If Ronnie at the end of my career says I’m one of the best players, I’m happy. It does not matter what others say, if he says some good things about me like he did tonight, no one knows the game better than he does. ‘
