Philips convened by DOJ over sleep apnea device recall

Royal Philips NV has been sued by the Ministry of Justice in connection with a comprehensive and costly recall of respirators affecting millions of sleep apnea patients.

The Dutch health conglomerate is in the midst of a huge recall of concerns that a type of foam used in certain respiratory aids could degrade and release harmful, possibly carcinogenic particles. Philips said its Respironics division and some other subsidiaries received the lawsuit on April 8 to “provide information about events leading up to Respironics’ recall.” It said it cooperated with the agency.
