Personal loans are back after an early pandemic crisis

One type of consumer loan that fell into disfavor in the first months of the pandemic is again popular.

Lenders raised $ 222 billion in personal loans last year, up 31% from a year earlier and 22% from 2019, according to the credit reporting firm Experian PLC. It was the highest level in an entire year back to at least 2011.
