Paul Scholes marks Mikel Arteta as ‘a disgrace’ after controversy between Arsenal and Manchester United

Paul Scholes has branded Mikel Arteta a “disgrace” following a controversial VAR decision during Manchester United’s defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

United lost 3-1 at the Emirates in the early kick-off on Saturday, apparently ending their hopes of reaching the top four. Nuno Taveres, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka were all on the scoresheet to give the Gunners the win.

However, there was controversy surrounding Arsenal’s second goal, which came from the spot. Initially, VAR had ruled out a goal for Eddie Nketiah due to an offside call.

But while ruling out Nketiah’s strike, the VAR official advised the judge to check for an error on Saka in the construction of Alex Telles. The resulting decision was a penalty kick, which Saka coolly converted.

After the match in Premier League Productions, United legend Scholes became angry over Arteta’s reaction on the sidelines. He explained: “At the time, I thought it was offside.

“I did not really think about the error, to be honest. It questions whether it is a clear and obvious error, which is the only reason it should go to VAR.

“It’s a meeting, of course it is. I think Arteta is a disgrace there. He should not be allowed to. If you see it again, he actually goes to the audience to try to influence the referee a little. All the players around them too. It should not be allowed, but it’s a little clumsy from Telles. ”
