Overgrown garden ‘which forced the neighbor to rebuild the wall is cut down’
A heavily overgrown garden that engulfed a house and caused neighbors to complain has finally been trimmed.
The home in Ramsgate, Kent, made headlines over the weekend because of its unusually bushy appearance.
Shrubs and vines had grown so much that the owner of the house could only enter his house through his back door.
The plants had also completely engulfed a van that stood outside the home and spread to nearby properties.
A neighbor claimed he had to rebuild his wall because the vegetation damaged it so violently.
The town’s local postman even stopped delivering letters through the property’s front door, saying the chaotic garden makes the house ‘undeliverable’.
But now new pictures seem to show that the garden has been cut down markedly.
The van can be seen clearly, as can the driveway in which it is parked.
Perhaps most importantly, the front door of the house is actually accessible.
Last week, the Thanet District Council said it was ‘unable to engage with the owner’ of the house.
The council also promised that it would “determine whether it needed any legal enforcement”.
It is unclear whether the owner finally decided to cut the vegetation back because of this threat.
While several locals spoke of being ‘frustrated’ over the overgrown garden, some stressed that the owner was ‘very nice – but really a bit secluded’.
Neighbor Rena Reves, 40, said: ‘(The owner) is a riddle wrapped in the bush. I have lived here for 12 years and it has always been that way.
‘Some of the vines have started to go to the chimney of the other house, and if it gets into the masonry, it does not help.
‘He is very much a recluse who keeps to himself.’
