SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Following the announcement this week that Elon Musk would buy Twitter directly for $ 44 billion, leaked internal communications suggest that many of the progressive employees on the social media platform are currently furious at Tesla’s CEO plans to to cut back on moderation of content in favor of “freedom of speech.”
Musk bought a 9.2 percent stake in Twitter in April for $ 2.89 billion, but rejected a subsequent offer to become a member of the company’s board that would have put a cap on his ability to buy additional shares in the company. Instead, he announced his intention to actually buy the company, which happened when Twitter’s board accepted his “Best and last” offer of $ 54.20 per share on Monday.
The South African business magnate has been honest about his plans to take the listed company private and turn it into a “platform for freedom of expression” having previously accused the platform of censorship, especially when it comes to conservative views.

The announcement has sent many progressives currently employed by Twitter into a riot, with many of them using the corporate communications platform Slack – as well as their own personal Twitter accounts – to express their despair and anger at how the posts eventually leaked.
“Physically upset to see Elon talk about free speech,” a site reliability engineer who identifies as non-binary and transgender posted on Slack.
“Maybe not the place to say it, but I do not want to work for this company after the takeover,” said a senior employee’s video engineer at Slack.

Engineer Jay Holler tweeted confrontationally directly to his new boss, saying:
“The problem with @elonmusk is that he has consistently demonstrated a pattern of harmful behavior that disproportionately affects marginalized people, so maybe we should not give him more power than he has already stolen?”
“I’m radicalized now,” he said in a follow-up tweet.
Former location manager Laura Gomez tweeted,
“AM * sk-owned Twitter is one of the biggest threats to the 2022 and 2024 elections. We are damned if this happens.”
However, some Twitter employees expressed hope for the potential direction Musk could take the company, including a woman in the design department who said on Slack,
“I do not know much about him, I do not care. I just wanted to love free speech to be [the] highest priority. I do not care who leads it. Especially for minorities like myself, I had no rights at all in my home country. ”
Twitter management, in an apparent attempt to prevent potential sabotage in rebellioning employees in light of the buyout news, locked the platform down until Friday to prevent changes from being made.
