Nick Knowles struggled to hold back tears in a recent episode of Big Clear Out as he learned about the impact his guest’s deceased husband would have on other veterans.

In the second season of the Channel 5 program, Nick and his team met Sarah, whose husband Trevor died in March last year after suffering a heart attack.

The episode saw Sarah struggle to let go of her deceased husband’s belongings while cleaning up her home, including his military memorabilia.

However, she felt encouraged when she met with the charity Forgotten Veterans UK, with a representative reassuring her about how Trevor’s belongings would be treated once the organization was allowed to take care of his collection.

The representative said: ‘With your permission, we would love to have a picture of your husband and some of the history of his service career. So when the vulnerable veterans come through, they can actually look at your husband as an inspiration to stay alive. ‘

Sarah nodded and said to him, ‘That would be nice,’ to which Nick admitted, ‘You made me suffocate.’

He waved his hand and turned away and seemed to be on the verge of shedding tears.

He then stepped forward to give Sarah a heartfelt hug, an additional form of comfort for the widow as she prepared to take the important step in her life.

Several viewers remarked how emotional they found the episode, with a tweet: ‘Blimey – the donation part with the veterans’ charity also made me feel good – powerful.’

“I love this program and as always Nick is sensitive and appears as such a lovely person,” said another.

Someone tweeted Nick to tell the presenter that he actually served with Trevor, describing him as a ‘top man’ and saying he was ‘so happy to see you do this for a great family’.

“It felt like I got to know him through his family – was glad we could talk veterans too,” Nick replied.

Earlier this month, the TV host spoke out against ‘violent trolls’ targeting his girlfriend, Katie Dadzie, with whom he has been dating since 2021.

He wrote: ‘I am furious. The woman I was out eating with when we were cardboarded is 32, has degrees in two professions, runs 3 businesses, is a mother of 2, is richer and more successful than me and is intelligent and independent unlike the violent trolls who attacks her
