The Frenchman has missed the club’s last six games with a hamstring injury and is yet to feature under Potter.
Kante started the first two games of the season against Everton and Tottenham, but he was forced off in a 2-2 draw against Antonio Conte’s side in August.
The injury has kept the midfielder on the sidelines for six weeks, but he was able to take part in a training session today which included those not selected for international duty.
The Blues face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday and while Kante is unlikely to be risked, he could take a place on the bench as he recovers from his break.
Chelsea have nine games to play in October with one game every three days.
Central midfield is an area that Potter wants to strengthen and there are doubts over Kante’s future at the club.
The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season and has rejected the club’s latest proposals.
He is seeking a three-year deal to stay at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues have offered him a two-year deal.
