David Ojabo has been selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft in Las Vegas.
The 21-year-old linebacker, who grew up in Aberdeen after moving from Nigeria at the age of seven, had been predicted as a first-round pick before tearing an Achilles tendon in March.
The injury meant the Michigan University star was bypassed on day one of the NFL’s annual event.
But his slippage stopped when he was taken with the 45th election last Friday.
Ojabo had not practiced the sport when he moved to America to attend a high school in New Jersey, where he played basketball, before being called upon to give American football a chance at the age of 17.
A year later, he played for the University of Michigan’s team, the Wolverines.
He shone last season, made 11 sacks and helped his team win the Big 10 Championship.
Ojabo brought his parents with him to the draft after they were flown out of Aberdeen to surprise him.
