“Minions: The Rise of Gru” raises $ 108 million in ticket sales

The animated feature film franchise’s latest offering, “Minions: The Rise of Gru”, has caused the cash registers to ring all over the country. The film grossed more than $ 108 million during its opening weekend at the box office.

The fifth installment in the Despicable Me series earned an additional $ 93.7 million overseas, increasing total revenue from its debut weekend to an estimated $ 202 million.

Over the weekend, 54 per cent of domestic cinema-goers watched the long-awaited film, with 68 per cent of ticket buyers belonging to family groups.

The film is thought to have raised an additional $ 20 million for tickets in the U.S. and Canada, increasing its holiday weekend earnings to $ 128 million.
