Mike Tyson isn’t holding back in speaking out against Hulu moving forward with a documentary series about his life.
Tyson took to himself Twitter and posted, “Hulu stole my story. They’re Goliath and I’m David. Heads will roll for this.” You check out Tyson’s Twitter post below!
Tyson’s Twitter page and Instagram is filled with stories that seem to support his claims that this documentary series is being made without his involvement or consent. The boxing champion released a statement to ET’s Philiana NG Thursday after the show’s executive producer, Steven Rogers, said Mike Tyson could not be involved in the project due to rights issues. Tyson quickly shot this down by saying, “[That’s] a flat life. My life option expired years ago. Hulu or any of their superior teams have ever attempted to enter into negotiations with this black man. In their eyes, I’m still just a ****r on the auction block ready to be sold for their profit without regard for my worth or my family.”
Tyson continued saying, “They say this story is an exploration of a black man. It’s more like an exploitation of a black man. Hulu thinking their tracks are covered by hiring black scapegoats to play the role of frontmen for their backdoor robbery is appalling .I will always remember this flagrant disregard for my dignity.
Hulu first announced in June that the series had the title MIKEwould premiere on the platform at 25 August 2022. The series stars Trevante Rhodes as Mike Tyson, and according to to Hulu, the eight-episode series “explores the tumultuous ups and downs of Tyson’s boxing career and personal life – from beloved global athlete to pariah and back again.” Tyson has been quite vocal against the series since it was first announced, and as its release nears, Tyson seems to be doing everything in his power to let people know what Hulu has been up to.
In March 2021, a separate biography titled Tyson was launched to networks as a limited series. Jamie Foxx is attached to play the boxing champion, while Mike Tyson was set to serve as executive director for that project. It looks like the effort is still floating around, but there hasn’t been much news about it recently.
