MANCHESTER UNITED have received a boost in their hunt for Darwin Nunez.
That’s because the Benfica star has reportedly turned down a summer move to Newcastle.
The Telegraph claims Eddie Howe had a bold approach to Nunez, 22, earlier this month.
The Uruguay international has scored 33 goals in all competitions.
And Newcastle bosses were keen to quickly sign a £ 60m deal ahead of a summer transfer.
Nunez, however, rejected Toon’s offer as he sticks to a bigger side, with Newcastle now seeing Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
That means United have one less challenger to the assassin after Erik ten Hag made Nunez a primary target.
His all-action style makes him the ideal focal point of Ten Hag’s system at Old Trafford.
However, there is still a problem for the Red Devils.
That’s because Nunez ideally wants to play Champions League football next semester.

Sixth place United are four points behind Spurs and six behind Arsenal, which they lost to at the weekend.
Ralf Rangnick’s mismatches have also played an extra match, and a top four ranking seems very unlikely.
Still, United got another boost today when it turned out that club favorite Jorge Mendes has been given the task of finding Nunez’s next club.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent helped United sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon in 2020.
And he is now ready to help Portuguese football’s latest talent choose a new home this summer.
