Man has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out through an apartment in intermediate rows on Kingston Road in New Malden on Tuesday.

The man managed to get out of the burning building before firefighters arrived and were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crew.

One of the brigade’s new 32-meter turntable ladders has been sent to the site and is being used as a water tower so that the crews can fight the fire from outside.

Firefighters from New Malden, Surbiton, Kingston, Wimbledon and the surrounding fire stations were called to the fire at 8.37am.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

Several houses have been evacuated. The road is closed in both directions and there is a queue back through New Malden to the A3.
