Love and Thunder’s leaks reveal a disturbing Venom connection

Venom’s brief appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can have unintended consequences. Tom Hardy only got a few moments of screentime in the post-credit scene from Spider-Man: No Way Homebut new leaks for the coming Thor: Love and Thunder suggests that his character may have an unexpected impact on the MCU as a whole.

Warning: Potential spoilers ahead for Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor 4 leaks: Gorr edition

There has been no shortage of leaks showing Love and Thunder villain, Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale in the new Marvel movie. We have seen pictures of Bale covered in pale white makeup on the set along with pictures of his action figure – although the character in particular was absent from the first official Thor 4 trailer.

However, a recently leaked bit of alleged promo art to Thor: Love and Thunder can offer our best look at Gorr to date and you might notice something … interesting.

Gorr himself still sees a kind of … meh, but we can not help but focus on the black tentacles that go out behind his back and attack the film’s two Thors. If you think the tentacles look familiar then you are not mistaken. Love and Thunder seems to take some inspiration from Venom, and the plot has deep roots in the comic book canon.

Thor 4 and Venom

Marvel has not revealed much about Gorr’s entire deal Thor: Love and Thunder until now. Based on his full name, we know he likes to murder gods (beware, Odinson), but other than that, he’s a mystery.

In the comics, Gorr’s origins are also relatively mysterious, but we know a lot more about him. First, he is an alien (a detail we assume will be transferred to MCU, but who knows). More importantly, we know a lot about his favorite weapon: All-Black the Necrosword.

All-Black is a weapon with a long enough background history to deserve its own long Wiki page. Its origins are strange and complicated, but the long and short of it is that All-Black is the original symbiot (aka the race of aliens that includes Venom in their ranks).

Is it possible Thor: Love and Thunder will follow this same origin story, in which case we may not get a direct mention of Venom at all. But it’s just as possible that MCU will do what it’s best at and remix that story to fit its cinematic wallpaper.

What if the symbiotic rogue left by Venom at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home somehow found his way to Gorr and gave him the powers he needs to defeat Thor? If that is the case, Love and Thunder be able to introduce symbiotes to the MCU in a very unexpected way.

And we can only assume that wherever symbiotes show up, Venom itself will not be far behind.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
