Lloyds Banking Group has announced that it will close another 60 banks this summer as customers switch to online banking. Recent closures will affect 24 Lloyds Bank branches, 17 Halifax branches and 19 Bank of Scotland branches.

The bank closures will result in 124 job losses, but Lloyds Banking Group has said they will try to find new roles for the affected staff.

Vim Maru, group director of retail, said: ‘Like many other high street companies, there are fewer customers who choose to visit our branches.

“Our branch network is an important way for us to support our customers, but we need to adapt to the significant growth of customers who choose to do most of their day-to-day banking online.”

Lloyds Banking Group is not alone in closing its high street branches. Earlier in March, HSBC announced it would close 69 bank branches, while TSB said in November it would close 70 locations.
