Live updates: Man charged with murdering retiree David Varlow in Halesowen’s home

A man from Birmingham has traveled to court accused of killing a pensioner in his home. David Varlow, 78, was found dead on the living room floor of his Halesowen property by police.

Adris Mohammed, 44, of Icknield Port Road, Ladywood, is on trial at Birmingham Crown Court on charges of murdering the pensioner on November 15 last year. He is also charged with manslaughter and attempted burglary of Mr. Varlow’s home in Manor Lane on October 24th.

He is further charged with burglary on November 3 and also between November 10 and 13 along with a charge of fraud in connection with the alleged misuse of Mr Varlow’s bank card. He denies all charges.

O’Shay Swan, 42, of Winson Green Road, Winson Green, is also accused of breaking into Mr. Varlow’s home between Nov. 10 and 13 and of fraud on Nov. 12. He denies the offense.

Varlow’s family said earlier in a statement: “We are devastated to have lost a much-loved brother and uncle. There are no words to describe the pain and grief we as a family are going through after David’s death.”
