Once again, LeBron James made incredible NBA history.
With a first-quarter 3-pointer Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers star became the first player ever to score 50,000 career points in the regular season and playoffs.
James, 40, was already the NBA’s all-time leader in regular season and postseason scoring.
And he’s poised to keep adding to those records.
His Lakers are in second place in the Western Conference. James continues to produce at an All-Star level. And he’s been energized by last month’s surprise arrival of Luka Doncic, whose generational play-making has taken pressure off of James as the focal point of the offense.
“Watching him do this stuff at this age, it’s just unbelievable,” Doncic marveled after Tuesday’s 136-115 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. “Like, 50K points, I can’t even explain how insane that is. He might get to 70K. You never know.”
Here is a look at James’ latest milestone by the numbers.
50,033: That’s James’ current career point total, including the playoffs, after he finished with 34 points in Tuesday’s win.
41,871: James’ regular-season point total makes him the only player in NBA history to eclipse 40,000. He became the NBA’s all-time scoring leader in February of 2023, when he passed the 38,387 points scored by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
8,162: James’ postseason point total is also by far the most ever. Coming in a distant second is Michael Jordan, who scored 5,987 playoff points, albeit in 108 fewer games. James passed Jordan in 2017.
3: The only other players with at least 40,000 points in the regular season and playoffs are Abdul-Jabbar (44,149) and Karl Malone (41,689), forming an illustrious trio with James.
22: This is James’ 22nd NBA season, tying him with Vince Carter for the most in league history.
7,797: That’s the number of days between James’ first NBA points and his 50,000th.
35,191: Kevin Durant ranks second among active players with 35,191 points in the regular season and playoffs.
41: That’s how many times James has won a conference player of the month award, which is also a league record. The most recent one? That came last month, when James averaged 29.3 points on 55.5% shooting, 10.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists in 11 games in February.
24.9: James’ points per game average this season ranks 12th in the NBA. He also ranks sixth in assists per game (8.5) and 24th in rebounding (8.0).
27.05: James’ career points per game average, which ranks seventh in NBA history.
21: Although he boasts only one scoring title, James is in the midst of his 21st consecutive season averaging more than 24 points per game in an unprecedented display of consistency. He averaged 20.9 points per game as a teenager in 2003-04 en route to Rookie of the Year honors.
1,835: James’ career game total, including the playoffs, is the most in NBA history. He passed Abdul-Jabbar (1,797) earlier this season. James ranks third with 1,548 regular-season appearances, trailing Robert Parish (1,611) and Abdul-Jabbar (1,560).
13,554: James’ career assist total, including the playoffs, ranks third in NBA history. His regular-season total (11,487) ranks fourth. Both records belong to John Stockton, who finished with 15,806 assists in the regular season and 17,645 when including the playoffs.
13: That’s how many games the Lakers have won out of their last 15 as they’ve surged up the standings. They’ve won seven in a row and are 7-2 in games played by James and Doncic.
