Fathers of fame, they are like ours: communicate via social media, as far as they know.
On Sunday, Kate Hudson shared a sweet Father’s Day tribute with her followers to Kurt Russell, her mother Goldie Hawn’s longtime love.
“Funny, adventurous, passionate, determined, honest, affectionate, amazing dad and the best hair in Los Angeles,” she wrote along with a recurring image of her cuddle in bed with Russell. “Lucky us! Love you Dad! Happy Father’s Day.”
Hudson was raised by his mother and Russell, Hawn’s partner for nearly 40 years, as the “Almost Famous” star is separated from his biological father, musician Bill Hudson.
Since Russell himself has no social media presence, Hawn passed on his daughter’s message before publicly sharing his heartfelt response in the comments for all to see.
“Honey, I showed this to Dad. Here’s his message …” Hawn wrote.
“Birdie, Mom just showed me this picture, it’s the perfect Father’s Day gift. I’ve never seen it before. Wow … it’s a killer,” Russell wrote. “A lot of water under the bridge hard to see it, because all the water seems to have somehow found its way into my eyes… thank you for making me the world’s luckiest dad in the world, girlfriend. I love you, dad. “
Hawn also posted a special shoutout to Russell on Instagram along with a picture of the two stars sharing a kiss.
“How can I explain the gratitude and love I feel for the best father who has given us all so much in this life,” she wrote under the caption.
Hudson and her brother, actor Oliver Hudson, were born to Bill Hudson and Hawn during the couple’s marriage, which lasted from 1976 to 1982, but both consider Russell their father.
Hawn and Russell share son “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” star Wyatt Russell. The “Escape from New York” actor is also the father of son Boston from a previous marriage to Season Hubley.
Over the years, Hudson has repeatedly toppled Russell’s central role in her life, calling him a “great loyal protector” and “our trusted authentic captain” in a Father’s Day post last year.
But the alienation from her biological father still weighs heavily on the star.
“I have an amazing family, I have a beautiful mother. I have a stepfather who stepped in and played a huge, huge role in sharing what it is like to have a trusted father figure in our lives,” she said in a section of “Sunday Today with Willie Geist” last year.
“But that does not take away from the fact that we did not know our father,” she continued, describing the breakup as a “41-year-old problem” that hangs on to this day. “People sometimes just need to hear that they are not alone about it.”
For Father’s Day, Hudson shared an extra tribute to his partner Danny Fujikawa on Instagram, where he posted a video of him with their 3-year-old daughter Rani.
Like his parents, Hudson has his own mixed family. She is also the mother of son Ryder, 18, whom she shares with her ex-husband, musician Chris Robinson, and son Bingham, 10, from a previous relationship with Muse frontman Matt Bellamy.
