EXCLUSIVE: Justina Machado (One day at a time) and Will Sasso (High milk) has logged in to participate The setbackan indie comedy marking Mario Garcia’s directorial debut, which is on its way to production in Tampa next month.
The film follows a married couple (Machado and Sasso) in a full-blown midlife crisis, who are thrown into further turmoil as the wife (Machado), an underrated and stressed ‘supermor’, suffers from a post-traumatic breakdown during the holiday season, causing her to leave back to his 19-year-old college party girl-self.
Garcia wrote the script and will produce through his company Garcia Interactive with Michael A. Alfieri of Miantri Films and Doug Fox. Machado and Sasso’s longtime manager, Danielle Del, will co-produce with Machado and Sterling Macer Jr.
Machado recently played as Penelope on Sony Picture Television’s revival of One day at a timeand will next be seen in the Blumhouse-produced Amazon series, Dolores Roach’s horror. The actress has also been seen on series like Queen of the South, Virgin Jane and Six feet undergroundamong many others. Additional movie credits include Everyone now, Purification: Anarchy, The call and The random husband.
Sasso hosts the podcastst Dudesy with Chad Kultgen and most recently appeared opposite Steve Carell and Rose Byrne in Focus Features’ comedy, Irresistible. The actor’s TV credits include F is for family, Mother, High milk, Another period, Kevin (probably) saves the world and MADtv. Additional movie credits include film fest, Boss level, Klaus, American woman, Super Troopers 2, The Three Stooges, Southland Tales, Best in Show and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Other upcoming films with Sasso include Cameron Fay’s Untitled Three Stooges Sequel and Marshall Cook’s sports comedy, The masters of the universe.
