Jersey has an interesting premise + brilliant performance by #ShahidKapoor, but seen as a whole it only works in patches … Slow pace, overworked narration, too much cricket [second hour] are deterrents. #JerseyReview

All in all, Jersey is an entertaining family movie that will keep its target audience happy. It may have opened slowly, but it definitely has the potential to grow with positive word of mouth, which will emerge due to the film’s inherent strength and emotional quotient. It should be added, however, that the “broken” release of the film (less than the optimal number of cinemas and shows due to the fact that KGF Chapter 2 (dubbed) goes super strong in single screen and multiplex cinemas) will negatively affect the overall business in the final statement.

Fortunately, the emotionally charged drama is amplified, and the twist at the end about what happened to Arjun will make you cry. Especially if you are not familiar with the original. It is very likely that if you have not seen it, this will work better for you. But for fans of Nani’s Jersey like me, this Jersey is not fresh or invigorating enough

An emotionally charged ending, even if it feels completely at the last minute, provides the essential drama that a film like this needs. That, and the message that it’s never too late to make your dreams come true. Overall, though, Jersey is sincere but lackluster.

While this is a sports-driven drama, you do not quite encounter too many of the nail-biting moments on the edge of the seat, though whatever you see engages you, especially if you have not seen the original. This film leans more on emotional drama, while it could have created a finer balance between sport and human drama. If you expect nail-biting cricket moments, you’ll probably be a little disappointed. But if you love an inspiring and moving father-son story, this one ticket is worth it.

That said, Shahid Kapoor continues to add some interesting laps in the second phase of his life, and Jersey is definitely one of them. A rare and almost perfect mix of drama, (predictable-yet-interesting) games and everything else.

Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starring Jersey is a pretty solid sports film, underdog take and family drama put together in one, without ever being remarkable, which is to be expected as it was the same with its carbon-copy original. However, it should earn more rewards for those who have not seen the Nani movie. I go with 3.5 out of 5 stars.

“Tu bataa kake, khelun ki nahin khelun ?,” a confused Arjun asks his son. To this the child replies: “Khelo naa papa, dil khol ke khelo. Jab cricket khelte hoon toh ekdum hero lagte hoon.” Shahid Kapoor as an actor acts in a similar way, making sure your heart belongs to his ‘shirt’.

The film gives a sneak peek into a cricketer’s life, but more than being a sports film, it creates a perfect balance between sport and human emotions. It provides powerful life lessons in each scene and encourages the audience to stand strong and be hopeful, no matter how difficult the situation is. For those who are watching it for the first time, they will definitely love the movie, but those who are watching it again should go with a new perspective. In the end, it will leave the audience with tears in their eyes and make Arjun’s character immortal in the audience’s minds and hearts. Overall Jersey is a must-see movie that has all the elements and will make you laugh, cry and cheer all the way through.
