Japanese tourist boat is missing with 26 on board

TOKYO — Searchers searched early Sunday for a tourist boat that disappeared in rough seas in a remote part of northern Japan with 26 people on board.

The Japanese military said it was sending a search plane to the Shiretoko Peninsula, a rugged area on the northern tip of Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido, as hopes that any survivors could be found in the icy water were weakened.
