I’m a cleaning expert – the dirtiest part of your home that you touch ALL the time and how to easily disinfect it
Given all the practical tasks that are a part of everyday life, bacteria and grime can easily accumulate on surfaces.
That said, there is one place that you probably overlook in your cleaning routine that is spreading bacteria throughout your home.

In a talk with Insider, cleaning expert and former hoarding technician advised Fiona Mills on how to clean the dirtiest surface in your home, the door handles.
Door handles are “among the five dirtiest objects in a home,” according to Mills.
“Think about how many people touch a door handle in a day, and then think about how many times each person will touch the same door handle,” Mills said.
“Touch handles are one of the fastest ways viruses and bacteria spread because everyone touches them and they are rarely cleaned,” she continued.
“On average, there are at least five different bacteria on door and cabinet handles, as well as wall corners that people routinely touch.”
Fortunately, since a door handle is a non-porous surface, the majority of viruses on it would be gone within 24 hours of proper cleaning.
Depending on the type, the survival rate of the bacteria varies from hours to months.
To solve the problem of dirty door handles, Mills proposed a simple solution: disinfectant wipes containing quaternary ammonium compounds, known to be a successful disinfectant against viruses such as COVID-19.
“I would recommend disinfecting at least once a week, if not more, depending on whether there is a disease in the home or many people,” Mills said.
With your door handles covered, you may be wondering how to clean other popular surfaces in your home.
Well, cleaning fanatic Sidney Raz shared a way to get the dirt out of your microwave in a minute without scrubbing.
Raz’s simple solution was to fill a bowl with lemon juice and water, place it in the dirty microwave and then turn it on.

“Microwave it for a minute and a half … And it should dry out more evenly,” Raz explained.
After the lemon water was heated, Raz was able to dry his microwave clean with minimal effort, thanks to the steam produced from the mixture.
