Green light for developer to build new development in Shirley

HOUSE BUILDER Wain Homes has been given the green light to develop 110 new homes in the Shirley area of Solihull and 49 homes in Rowney Green, Worcestershire, after the schemes were granted planning permission by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and Bromsgrove District Council.

The six-acre Shirley scheme, located on Stratford Road, was the former headquarters of Lucas and ZF and will be one of the first developments for the newly established West Midlands region of Wain Homes.

The settlement, called The Green, will contain a number of one- and two-room apartments and two-, three- and four-room dwellings.

Bordesley Manor in Rowney Green, Alvechurch, has also recently been granted permission to build 49 homes on the former Bordesley Hall Business Park site.

Andy Peters, CEO of Wain Homes West Midlands, said: “These developments represent a real statement of intent for Wain Homes West Midlands and are only the start of our plan to deliver around 500 new quality homes annually by 2026 as described in our business plan.

“The Green is perfectly located in a popular residential area of Solihull, ideal for commuting into Birmingham city center and for access to the M42.

“Rowney Green is a highly sought after location with good connections yet boasts a rural setting overlooking green fields.

“Having only been established in the West Midlands for just over 12 months, we already have six new developments and around 600 new homes in the planning pipeline, demonstrating Wain Homes’ appeal to landowners, agents and local authorities who can see a long track record of the company, which delivers successful and popular developments in our other three regions. “
