TODAY’S GAMERANT VIDEO

Chris Klippel from Rockstar Mag, a French publication that covers all things Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, shared an interesting perspective on Twitter recently. Klippel says that they received feedback regarding Grand Theft Auto 6‘s engine, which they call the RAGE9. This engine, they think, will lead to something “incredible” too Grand Theft Auto 6. If it was not clear, Klippel claims not to have seen Grand Theft Auto 6, or even Rockstar’s updated RAGE engine. They claim to have heard details about the engine that Rockstar uses for Grand Theft Auto 6 and how impressive it is. It leaves a lot of room for Klippel’s comments to be exaggerated or inaccurate, then Grand Theft Auto fans should take them with a pinch of salt.

RAGE, Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, is known to be Rockstar’s engine for its internal projects, including Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar iterates on the engine with each game release in small and large ways. Rockstar does not publicly refer to the RAGE engine with version numbers. The versioning is mentioned quite often in the Rockstar community, whether it is accurate or not.

Regardless of whether the version of RAGE is used for Grand Theft Auto 6 is actually the ninth version of the engine or not, Klippel says it’s a step forward from the version of RAGE used for Red Dead Redemption 2. That alone should convey the kind of visual step forward Klippel expects with the latest Rockstar engine update given how impressive Red Dead Redemption 2‘s pictures are.

Klippel’s reporting on the subject may not be accurate, but Rockstar fans already believe it Grand Theft Auto 6 will be an impressive visual step forward from previous Rockstar games. After all, Rockstar is always pushing for groundbreaking visuals in its games. It’s just a matter of being patient and waiting until Rockstar finally unveils GTA 6 to the world.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development.
