Gabby Agbonlahor believes Arsenal should sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney as a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gunners are looking for a new center forward the summer after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club to join Barcelona in January.

Meanwhile, both Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah were able to leave at the end of the season with their contracts running out, further exacerbating Arsenal’s lack of strikers.

Toney has scored 12 goals in the Premier League this season and is said to be a goal too Newcastle United.

Agbonlahor, the former Aston Villa striker, however, believes Arsenal should try to put the Magpies on the 26-year-old’s signature.

In a speech to Football Insider, he said: ‘I wanted to get rid of Lacazette. If I were Arsenal, I would pick up two top strikers in the summer, 100 percent. They should look at someone like Toney.

‘He has proven that he is Premier League quality this season, you do not have to pay ridiculous salaries because he is not going to be on crazy salaries at the moment. It will not be an insane transfer fee.

‘He will guarantee that you keep the game, the work speed and score goals. It’s a signing that a lot of Premier League teams will look at. ‘

Toney is under contract at Brentford until 2025, after signing a five-year contract with the club when he joined from Peterborough United in 2020.

Since arriving at Community Stadium, he has been prolific in the field, scoring 47 goals in 85 appearances for the Beers.

Last October, the striker revealed how Brentford’s devotion to him prompted his move to west London two years ago.

He told The Times: ‘When I talked to people in the club, I liked what they said and how they thought. They did not have the biggest budget but they chose wisely when it came to recruiting and they showed me more love than any other club.

‘They had been after me for a year and a half and when I knew it was an easy matter for me to get to the club. I saw it as an opportunity to reciprocate their faith. ‘
