Analysis-Iran nuclear deal near death, but West not ready to pull the plug

Western officials have largely lost hope that Iran’s nuclear deal can be revived, said sources familiar with the matter, forcing them to consider how to curb Iran’s nuclear program, even though Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has divided the superpowers. Although they have not completely given up the pact, according to which Iran restricted its nuclear program in return for easing economic sanctions, there is a growing belief that it may be beyond salvation. Four Western diplomats reiterated the feeling that the agreement – which Iran signed with Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States in 2015, but which then-US President Donald Trump abandoned in 2018 – is fading away.
