Everton’s official account probably thought they had deleted their funny fork from history after the team’s 1-0 win over Newcastle – but nothing can * really * be deleted from Twitter.

Wayne Rooney secured three massive points for Toffees with the only goal of the match in the 27th minute at St James’ Park to bring his number to nine in the Premier League this season.

That means the former English striker is on target with Manchester United’s £ 75m move, Romelu Lukaku, for the season. Not bad for a washed-out 32-year-old.

However, Everton royally screwed up a tweet after the match that showed Rooney celebrating his winner in the first half and it was glorious. Twitter at its very best.

Somehow, American rapper Lil Wayne was tagged in the tweet before the posting was quickly deleted from Everton’s page.

Two minutes later, a new post appeared with genuine Wayne felt, but the injury had already happened. Good try though.

In the words of the great Clive Tyldesley, they really should have: ‘REMEMBER[ED] THE NAME, WAYNE ROONEY! ‘

Everton’s victory means the Merseyside club remain 10th in the English top class ahead of their showdown with Swansea City, who are at the bottom.
