EU regulator warns Twitter about content moderation

A top regulator in the EU warned the social media giant Twitter will have to follow the block’s new rules to tackle illegal and harmful content online if it wants to continue operating there, marking a possible challenge to Elon Musk’s plans to take a more hands-free approach to content moderation.

Thierry Breton, The European Commissioner for the Internal Market, said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that it is his job to ensure that companies, including Twitter, understand their commitments in Europe. It will soon include a number of new obligations for social media and other online platforms, called the Digital Services Act, after lawmakers agreed on the main points of the legislation last week.
