EU accuses Apple of abusing market power for mobile payments

EU competition authorities charged on Monday Apple abusing its dominant position by restricting access to the technology that supports contactless payments on their iOS mobile devices, contributing to the bloc’s efforts to crack down on alleged anti-competitive behavior from some of the world’s largest technology companies.

The European Commission, the EU’s executive, said it was addressing Apple’s decision to prevent mobile wallet app developers from accessing the necessary hardware and software on its devices and instead favoring its own offering, Apple Pay.
