Ethiopia’s Lalibela fights while war and Covid-19 keep tourists away

Ethiopia’s 17-month-long civil war has left thousands dead and millions in need of help, but a humanitarian ceasefire between the government and the Tigrayan rebels has been hailed as an important step towards a solution.

But in the historic city of Lalibela, which is heavily dependent on tourism, the extra impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has left many without a livelihood.
