More than 1,000 schoolchildren were sent home from classes today after a gun threat on social media.

An image of a person holding a handgun along with the message ‘Don’t come to school tomorrow’ was sent to pupils at St Julians School in Newport, Gwent, via Snapchat.

Senior staff closed the school as a “precautionary measure” after parents and children raised the alarm.
