In an effort to develop its work and approve its programs and activities for the current year in the service of member publishers and to make the most of the opportunities it offers, the General Assembly of the Emirates Publishers Association held its regular meeting in the presence of representatives of the Ministry for Community Development, during which it approved the board’s report on the work in the completed year, and approved the activity programs and a plan. The work of the association and its estimated budget for the current year.
The representative of the Ministry of Social Development announced that the General Assembly’s quorum had been reached, and the meeting began with a welcome speech by Ali Obaid bin Hatem, Chairman of the Assembly’s Board, which touched on the efforts of the Assembly’s work team over the past year.
The meeting reviewed the association’s activities, external participation, programs and results in the past year (2021), including workshops, sessions, evenings, participation in local and international exhibitions and the launch of the publishers’ training program.
The General Assembly meeting discussed the 2022 programs, the expected participation of the local and foreign association under them, and the proposed financial budget for the current fiscal year, in addition to discussing proposals from some members.
The general meeting of the association approved amendments to its articles of association for the purpose of improving its work and strengthening its role in serving member publishers. The members of the association voted on the amendments, which included three points related to controls and procedures for representing the association in the membership of local, regional and international organizations and federations.
In a statement following the two meetings, Ali Obaid bin Hatem, Chairman of the Emirates Publishers Association, said: “We have adopted a work plan and programs for the association for the coming period and we have focused on intensifying the use of the association’s various capacities to achieve a qualitative leap in its activities to serve the member publishers and support the sustainability and growth of the association.The publishing sector in the Emirates, especially in the field of book distribution and marketing.
He added: “We trust the unlimited support that the association enjoys, especially the patronage and generosity of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Councilor and ruler of Sharjah, including his directive to establish an affiliate distribution company. with the association, and we are working to make its logistical role a contributor during the coming period to transfer the member publishers’ books to new markets. ”
