Sharjah, April 26 / WAM / Sharjah Airport achieved positive results and a remarkable growth in passenger numbers, cargo volume and air traffic in the first quarter of 2022.
From January to the end of March last year, the airport received more than 3 million passengers, compared to 1.3 million passengers in the same period in 2021, an increase of 119.2 percent.
Aircraft movements in the first quarter recorded an increase in the number of flights by more than 89 percent, registering 21,336 flights, compared to 11,279 flights in the same period last year.
In terms of air freight traffic, Sharjah Airport recorded more than 39.566 thousand tons during the first three months of this year, a growth of 26.39 percent compared to the same period last year which recorded only 14.457 thousand tons during the month of March.
His Excellency Ali Salem Al Midfa, chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, said: “The easing of international travel restrictions and the gradual recovery from the ‘Covid-19’ pandemic, which allowed airlines to resume their previously suspended flights, contributed to to achieve positive growth rates that are in line with the tireless efforts of Sharjah Airport, by providing the highest standards of safety and security for travelers and dealers during the pandemic, to make the travel experience to and from the Emirate of Sharjah easy, safe and distinctive.
