Diablo Immortal coming to PC, Blizzard announced early Monday morning. Alongside the announcement, the study revealed a host of changes to the PC version, such as controller support, UI scaling and cross-progression. But it also revealed why the PC version of Diablo Immortal exists: to combat emulation.
In a blog post, Blizzard talks a bit about going back and forth on wanting Diablo Immortal at all on PC. “On the one hand, we felt we would not do the title justice by releasing a game that was originally designed for mobile on PC,” Blizzard said, “on the other hand, we wanted to ensure that the game reached as many players as possible – especially our most dedicated PC fans. ” But, Blizzard explained, “the crucial factor was that we knew many of you would try to play this game through an emulator, which led us to build a better experience.”
Not only should this lead to a more curated experience – with user interface and controls specially tailored for PC – but players do not have to bypass the studio just to get their pre-Diablo 4 correct. It’s a blizzard that has clearly learned from the fan-created “Classic” World of Warcraft servers many years ago, which made it create World of Warcraft: Classic internally.
Blizzard’s honest response about emulation is far from the often-memorized “Do not you have phones?” from Immortal2018 unveiling. And with the studio’s expanded apology at the start of its revelation stream for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Last week, we’re heading for a more open Blizzard than we’ve seen in some time.
Until the players get their fingers in it Diablo Immortal (especially the new PC beta), it’s impossible to say how Diablo’s latest title will land on hardcore fans.
