The Delhi government has started the process of selecting five prominent retail markets for remodeling and sought information from market associations across the city. The proposals from market associations have been sought and the same could be delivered online through Delhi government official portal by May 6, officials said.
“If you are part of a historic and reputable market in Delhi and would like your market to be selected in the first phase, please send your proposals to the Delhi Government through your market association,” reads an official Web link from Delhi. the government portal.
The proposals should be presented with details about the officials of the relevant market associations, officials said.
The online suggestion form also looks for details such as the approximate number of stores in the market; unique products, shops, food centers in the market; five key infrastructure issues in the market; how market association can assist the government in market reorganization.
The retail market redevelopment project announced in Rozgar Budget 2022-23 last month in the Assembly seeks to upgrade five selected markets from across Delhi in Phase 1. The government has allocated Rs 100 crore for the program in the financial year 2022-23, and the creation of over 1.5 lakh job opportunities is estimated through the initiative.
Last Thursday, Sisodia met with 40 market associations to discuss speeding up the implementation of various initiatives of the Kejriwal government announced in the budget, including market rebuilding and holding of shopping festivals.
“Redevelopment of the city’s historic and iconic markets and Delhi Shopping Festival will increase the source of revenue and will develop the image of Delhi as an international shopping center,” Sisodia said at the meeting.
Delhi’s markets have been a one-stop destination for shoppers since ages, but over the years they have become quite crowded and inaccessible. The Delhi government aims to redesign, relieve and redevelop these markets to increase their business opportunities, he said.
