Uniformed armed police stormed a school in Surrey today after reports of a ‘suspicious phone call’ blocking students.

The officers were called around 11.15am and asked the staff and students to stay indoors while they inspected the place.

“We hope they will be able to leave the premises soon,” they said in a statement.

Parents were told in a text message from the school that the students are safe, while the police said that they ‘contrary to speculation on social media’ had not found a weapon at the school or made any arrests.

As news broke earlier today, a Surrey Police spokesman said: ‘We are aware of and respond to reports of an incident outside Esher Church of England High School in More Lane, Esher.

‘The officers are on the scene and conducting further investigations to determine the circumstances of the incident. We will provide further updates whenever we can. ‘

Elmbridge Beat tweeted in an update: ‘Uniformed armed officers on stage at Esher C from E High School after reports of safety concerns. Inquiries are conducted inside and outside the premises to establish circumstances.

‘Students and staff at the school remain in the building as a safety precaution at present. Further updates will follow. ‘

Parents have been sent a message from the school saying all students are safe and telling them not to come to school at this time, according to SurreyLive.

The text allegedly read: ‘The school is currently closed following police advice due to an incident outside the school.

‘All students are safe and the place is safe.

“There is a large police presence that advises us in our actions.

‘Please do not come to school at the request of the police. We will update you as soon as the situation changes. ‘
